Tesoro dei Medici
The Medici TreasureThe initiative 'Medici Treasures' is part of a working project entitled 'MuseiD-Italia' and is dedicated to the immense patrimony of precious objects that once belonged to the various members of the famous dynasty. The fulcrum of the Grand Ducal treasure is the Museo degli Argenti of the Palazzo Pitti in Florence, where, at the beginning of the twentieth century, the Medici family's minor arts collections merged together, for they had been previously housed in the Galleria degli Uffizi.
This extraordinary treasure is one of the few in Europe to have survived fairly intact up until today. Ideally connected to this treasure are works that were passed to other museums, such as the Museo di Storia Naturale of the University of Florence, due to various historical occurrences. There are, therefore, diverse precious manufactured pieces of the Medici that are housed in many museums throughout the region, included among which are sacred religious objects.
The portal offers users the opportunity to both familiarize themselves with these museums' collections via a multimedia catalogue and to virtually browse alternative itineraries; in addition, it presents users with tools that will allow them to examine, in-depth, those collections that are still lesser-known to the greater public.
